Natalie Bachmann
Natalie Bachmann, who is a senior psychology major, became involved as soon as she set foot on campus, and has continued to be a leader on campus and in the classroom. Bachmann, a native of Perryville, Mo., was one of 30 students who visited the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., during spring break. The group will be presenting their policy recommendations for 2008 and beyond at the Next America Seminar on April 11. Bachmann recently shared some of her accomplishments and experiences at Southeast as well as her future career aspirations.
Q: In what organizations/associations are you actively involved?
A: Psi Chi – I serve as the publicity chair, webmaster. I also serve on the membership and alumni development committee.
Women in Public Life – I am one of four female students representing Southeast at the Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life for one week in May.
Q: Why did you choose Southeast?
A: I chose Southeast because of its great value. I was fortunate enough to receive a wonderful scholarship that has allowed me to remain debt-free, which is a wonderful place to be at this stage in my life. The fact that I am debt-free has opened up many doors for me in terms of furthering my education.
Q: What one thing at Southeast has enhanced your college experience?
A: The professors! I hate to brag, but I have had a wonderful
experience with nearly all of the professors that I have encountered
during my college career at Southeast. They were willing to take extra
time to talk with me about any concerns or issues I needed to have
addressed. They were also extremely knowledgeable in their fields. I
appreciate what the professors have done to make sure that I have
succeeded as a student.
Q: What are your career aspirations after graduating?
A: After graduating, I hope to attend law school at Southern Illinois University. I am not sure exactly what kind of lawyer I want to be, but I feel that I can most effectively make a difference in the world by becoming a lawyer.
Q: What do you do for fun?
A: I love to read. Reading is a way to “get away from it all” without really getting away from it all. It provides a nice break from whatever I’m doing without being too intrusive in my (busy) life.
