Southeast, Logan College of Chiropractic Forge Agreement for 3+3 Program
Officials with Southeast Missouri State
University and Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis signed an
articulation agreement today, laying the groundwork for a 3+3 program
that will facilitate the path for Southeast students wishing to enter
the chiropractic profession.
Under the program which begins with the fall 2010 semester, Southeast
students wishing to pursue a chiropractic degree will complete three
years of coursework at Southeast Missouri State University and then
transition to Logan College of Chiropractic to complete an additional
three years of classes. After completing the first year of coursework at
Logan, students in the program will be awarded a bachelor of science
degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from Southeast.
The agreement forged today provides students the opportunity to
complete their baccalaureate degree and a doctor of chiropractic degree
in one less year than it would normally take to finish both degrees,
said Dr. John Kraemer, professor of biology and pre-chiropractic advisor
at Southeast. Completion of both degrees normally requires seven years.
“It’s an excellent opportunity for students to realize early
acceptance into their career choice so they can concentrate on their
academic success rather than worrying about acceptance into a
professional program and trying to graduate from a regular curriculum,”
he said. “This will facilitate our students getting in through an early
admissions program.”
Thomas M. Huebner, Jr., vice president of enrollment management at
Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, said “We have a number of
Southeast Missouri State University graduates who are currently
attending Logan and extending their educational journeys here. We are
absolutely thrilled to formalize our relationship with such a
high-profile institution as Southeast as one of our articulation
partners.”
The agreement calls for Southeast students to complete a minimum of
101 semester hours of coursework at Southeast. Students then take 34
semester hours of coursework at Logan that is transferred back to
Southeast for completion of their undergraduate degree.
Logan College has approximately 1,100 students, representing most
states and several foreign countries, at its 112-acre campus in
Chesterfield, Mo., a suburb of St. Louis. Established in 1935, Logan is
one of the largest chiropractic colleges or universities in North
America and is celebrating its 75th anniversary in 2010.
