<< BackESPN The Magazine Senior Editor to Present Michael Davis Lecture
The senior editor of ESPN The Magazine will present this year's
Michael Davis Lecture Feb. 20 at Southeast Missouri State University.
Keith Reed's address is scheduled for noon in Rose Theatre in
the Grauel Language Arts Building. The event is free and open to the
public.
The Michael Davis Lecture recognizes the contributions of
African-Americans in the media. The event also honors the late Michael
Davis, a mass communications student at Southeast who died as a result
of a hazing incident. He was a journalism student in the then Department
of Mass Communication at Southeast Missouri State University at the
time of his tragic death. In 1997, the department held the first Michael
Davis Lecture to honor his memory as part of the University's Black
History Month activities. The Michael Davis Lecture continues each year,
with a special invited guest from the mass media.
Reed assigns and edits short- and long-form articles, in addition to working on the magazine's digital platforms.
Prior to his work with ESPN The Magazine, Reed was employed
by Catalyst Ohio, a quarterly nonprofit magazine that focused on urban
public education in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati.
During his two years as an editor at Catalyst Ohio, the
magazine won numerous awards, including honors from the Society of
Professional Journalists and the Association of Women in Communications.
Earlier in his career, Reed worked as a business reporter for the
Baltimore Business Journal, Boston Globe and Cincinnati Enquirer.
He holds a bachelor's degree in English from Coppin State University in Baltimore.
