Southeast Missouri State University is observing Eating Disorders Awareness Week through March 3 with a variety of activities.
"Eating Disorders Recovery Panel" from 6-7 p.m. today in Crisp Hall Room 125
Come and hear about the recovery experiences of several individuals who have overcome eating disorders and how they are learning to cope. Linda Vogelsang, counselor from University Counseling Services with expertise in the prevention and treatment of eating disorders, will be present to facilitate discussion and answer questions.
Documentary Video: "America the Beautiful" from Noon to 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 29, in Crisp Hall Room 125
This powerful documentary looks at our culture's obsession with beauty and thinness. Dr. Shawn Guiling, faculty member in the Department of Psychology with expertise in body image, will be present to facilitate discussion and answer questions at the end of the video.
"Body Image: It's Time to Talk About It" from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in Crisp Hall Room 125
At this session, Tori Vanpool, counselor from University Counseling and Disability Services, will a lead a discussion about how body image becomes distorted and how to improve it.
"What is normal eating?" from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Thursday, March 1, in Crisp Hall Room 125
At this session, Southeast's dietetic interns will present a skit on how to recognize and strive for normal eating.
"NEDA 5K Walk/Run" with registration at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in Capaha Park Shelter One

Receive a free and anonymous screening from University Counseling Services staff and volunteers to determine whether you may be at risk for developing an eating disorder. The screenings will be available 30 minutes before and after each event. In addition, screenings will be available from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, in the Atrium Lobby and the Conference Room of the Student Recreation Center-North.
